The foundational concepts; how the microbes interact with the plants, and why we pay attention to plant succession. We will also discuss when it is important to test - and when not to test. Plan on a fast 45 minutes!
Compost
We often refer to quality compost as "Hand-crafted Humus". Humus is the layer of organic material on the surface in unmanaged environments and is necessary for fertile soil. We can create quality compost to mimick the characteristics found in humus. You may be making compost, wanting to start, or need to know what makes quality compost before you purchase from a vendor. This two-hour class will cover the theory of composting, what starting materials to use & the ratios for your mix, how to measure temperature, when to turn the pile, and how to tell when your hand-crafted humus is finished.
Practical Soil Biology

Those interested in learning the fundamentals of soil biology and how it applies to their gardens, farms, or landscapes will find this class fascinating and a quick two hours.
